There Is a Lot to Love About Carson, California

Located in southern Los Angeles County, Carson is a sunny city situated between Los Angeles and Long Beach. Carson is easily accessible from several major freeways and has a lot to offer from historical landmarks and cultural attractions to great restaurants and shops.

Carson is conveniently located just 13 miles south of downtown Los Angeles and is less than 30 minutes from Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Long Beach and Anaheim. Carson is also less than 20 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport. Incorporated in 1968, Carson has a population of just over 90,000 and is home to the Home Depot Center where the Los Angeles Galaxy and the Chivas USA soccer teams play their home games. Soccer legend David Beckham signed with the Galaxy in 2007 so you might even get a chance to see him play while visiting Carson.

Carson also offers over fifteen beautiful parks and several public pool facilities including the Dominguez Aquatic Center on Santa Fe Avenue. This huge swimming complex features water spray and shade structures, a kiddie pool, adult pool and activity pool complete with water slides for both kids and adults. The Hemingway Aquatic Center, located on South San Pedro Street, also offers kiddie and adult pools, water spray structures and dueling 16.5 foot high water slides.

Be sure to check out Anderson Park, located on Wilmington Avenue, while visiting Carson. This large park features a wading pool, a Frisbee golf course, picnic areas and an outdoor amphitheater that hosts lots of fun and free events throughout the year. Mills Park on Diamondale Drive is a smaller park that also features Frisbee golf and a wading pool as well as picnic areas and two playgrounds. If you or one of your traveling companions prefers skateboarding to swimming or picnicking, be sure to stop at Veteran’s Park on Moneta Avenue. This 12-acre park features a 10,000-sq. ft. skate park called Carson Skate Park. This skate park offers a variety of small-scale tranny and street skating as well as 4 foot capsule and a 4 foot horseshoe bowl. Keep in mind that all skaters must wear a helmet as well as knee and elbow pads.

Another fun attraction located in Carson is Go Kart World located on Recreation Road just off of Interstate 405. This hot spot offers six different go kart tracks, a kiddie track, a bumper car track, huge arcade room, a restaurant and so much more. Go Kart World was also voted the best go kart destination in the greater Los Angeles area. Celebrities like Kanye West and singer Andrew Garcia have been known to frequent Go Kart World in Carson, so you never know you might see!

For history buffs, be sure to check out the International Printing Museum that is located in downtown Carson on Torrance Boulevard. This top-notch museum houses one of the largest collections of historic graphic arts equipment in the world and educates guests on the evolution of printing. When planning a visit to Carson, keep in mind that the International Printing Museum is only open on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. However special appointments can be made Tuesday through Friday.

The Redondo Beach Pier is just a short six mile drive directly west of Carson and is definitely worth the 20 minute drive through Torrance. The Pier offers shopping, nightlife, dining and lots of outdoor activities like biking, jogging, kayaking, paddle boarding, surfing and scuba. There are also festivals, concerts and other events going on throughout the year. Next to the pier your will also find the famous Redondo Beach International Boardwalk and Marina which features their own set of fabulous restaurants, shops and boat charters.

Carson is also home to the SouthBay Pavilion Mall that is anchored by Sears, JC Penney, Ikea and Target. Other stores in the mall include The Children’s Place, Old Navy, Big 5 and even a Chuck E. Cheese. Restaurants at the mall include Panera Bread, Tony Roma’s, Chili’s and SanSai Japanese Grill. If antiques are more your style, you’ll want to check out Memory Lanes Antique Mall on South Figueroa which features over 250 different antiques dealers in one place.
