Here are some of the top destinations for the upcoming break- plan wisely! Although this list speaks about destinations for the spring breaker and the parent alike- they should not be confused with one another! The last thing a parent of toddlers needs is a hotel room in a hotel full of belligerent twenty one year olds.
South Padre Island, TX. This hotspot is fast becoming one of the most enticing places, drawing huge numbers of wild college students looking for a good time. Great weather, warm water, and most of all; a genial welcoming committee. South Padre is one of the few places (like Daytona in the past) that actually caters to this rowdy crowd. Sure, there are a few businesses and locales that can’t stand it; but for the most part, the island takes them in.
Steamboat Springs, CO. A great family atmosphere for some late spring skiing. In all of North America, it’s the peaks of Colorado that usually still offer snow caps and cool runs. But be sure to bring the sun tan lotion- you’re liable to get quite a ‘snowburn’ on those toddler’s faces if you don’t reapply often.
Panama City, FL. This hotspot has become of the most student friendly places in recent years. It is also the location that MTV has chosen to set up shop to cover the infamous spring break tradition. Beach partying and excitement levels are high throughout all of the spring break season.
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. This is one where a little cross pollination might be actually occur, and be alright. It’s a medium sized city after all with room for everyone. Downtown central, with the bars and nightlife, is having a bit of a spring break college student revival. While outlying hotels and all inclusive resorts are scoring big with vacationing families.
Havasu City, AZ. Usually a dusty, sleepy town 300 days of the year, this small enclave comes alive during the Spring when hoards of bikini clad, muscle bound men roll up with motorboats in tow. The lake literally dazzles not with glinting sunlight, but the glint of polished metal. Boats are often tied together, one after the next after the next, making for a long drawn out party that begins in early March and continues right on through the season. This is definitely a spot you would not want to get stuck with the young ones at. This is BYOB and for older, more party seasoned folk. There are even sure to be a few twenty years that this spot will get the better of.
Disneyland, CA. Located in sunny Anaheim, California, this perennial family favorite still rocks for spring break. The California weather serves as a beacon to those just digging out across the country. And those wide-eyed, big ears beckon to the youngsters. Be sure to buy a California pass and get access to both California Adventureland park as well as the land of Disney to boot.
